Title: REALITY – Part 1

We hear a lot about “reality” these days. People talk about the reality of the economy and job losses or gains. It is posited that our Presidential candidates have lost sight of it. One of them even had a show that defined this genre for the wonderful world of television.

Our newscasts and magazines contain information about the “bending” of reality…. through artificial intelligence or augmented reality. Artificial intelligence is the theory and development of computer systems which are able to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence. It covers areas such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and translation between languages. Augmented reality is a technology that superimposes a computer-generated image on a user’s view of the real world, thus providing a composite view. It is the integration of digital information with the user’s environment in real time.

What has happened to our view of reality? Has it become skewed? How does this affect our ability to lead others toward goal achievement and development? Could a computer replace a leader of a team? Will a team be more engaged if they can see cute, little characters sitting beside them as they work?

We define reality as “what is”. Right now, as you are reading this, your reality is that you are sitting somewhere, probably in your office or a coffee shop. Your reality is that you are the person you are, employed as you are, a member of a group of people (family, club, friends, place of worship, etc.) as you are. Reality is “what is”, NOT what we’d like it to be.
