Title: SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS THROUGH SELF-AWARENESS – Part 2

What could drive higher satisfaction? What could lead to success and happiness? Being aware of our talents and non-talents would. I’m talking about natural talents….those things we just “get” or do without thinking. These natural talents are based on neural networks in our brain. Research from Dr. Robert S. Hartman led to creation of Formal Axiology, the science of how we perceive ourselves and the world around us. Jay Niblick, in his book What’s Your Genius, teaches us how the neural networks relate to natural thinking talents, and how we can become more satisfied and successful.

The concept of natural thinking talents leads to the idea of masters and blind spots. Masters refers to stronger neural networks or classes of talent, and less developed ones are Blind Spots. Sitting in the correct seat of the bus is akin to working in your “masters” area. Being in the wrong seat happens when we operate from our “blind spots”.

Can success and happiness really be related to positioning ourselves in our master areas (the right seat on the bus) as opposed to our blind spot areas? Yes! The Genius Project was started in 2000 by Niblick. Spanning seven years, the study involved 197,000 individuals across 23 countries and was designed to identify any causes that might explain the difference between the best and the rest. This was done through interviews, case reviews, and administration of a profile which assessed the how, why, and what of behavior. Briefly, the study separated people into four levels of performance: below average, average, above average, and excellent. As interviews of people and review of their behavioral profiles progressed, it became clear that another level was present: Genius. Niblick states this label has nothing to do with intelligence. It is describing a person’s ability to perform due to natural thinking talents..... staying in their master area. The common factor found in those who achieved Fifth Level Genius was two acquired skills. This means they can be developed. They were “self-awareness” and “authenticity”.
