Title:
FOUNDATION OF LEADERSHIP – Part 1
By Jennifer Erickson
Two essentials to leadership are acting with integrity and being a trustworthy person. In fact, you could say these are the foundation on which leadership and high performing teams are built.
Notice that these topics do NOT relate to “is your team acting with integrity?” or “are your direct reports acting in a trustworthy manner?” These topics of integrity and trust are focused on you, and the choices you make. The only person you can control is you. Yes, really….that’s all you can control. (even though we like to think we can control others)
Are you acting in a manner that demonstrates integrity? Are you behaving in a way that indicates you are a trustworthy person? Integrity has to do with our character. Do you do what you say you will? Do you keep confidences? Do you truly value and develop your people?
When you act in a manner that is trustworthy, people know what they can expect from you. They depend on you, because they know what they see and hear won’t change with the whim of the day or the crisis of the week.
