Title: CONFLICT, CONFETTI, THE MOON, AND A FORK – Part 4

As a leader, embrace conflict. See it as an opportunity to move into even better situations and understanding of each other. Celebrate the opportunity, when it arises.

Then lead, lead, lead. A person who is in a prominent position must have a vision. You always see this. Even on those days it gets dim, it is still visible to you. You see this vision. You breathe this vision. You communicate the vision to your team. You present it as the reason they are struggling with decisions, tough times, and conflict. You hold it out there as something achievable, with you right along beside them.

The vision may seem out of reach to them, but yet, because you always hold it out to them, it’s always there. A leader makes the vision a possibility. A leader promises her/his team the moon…..then shows them how to touch it.

So, you see now how these all fit together. Embrace conflict…because it’s always going to be there; celebrate conflict….because it will get you to something better; and hold your vision to the team, so they work through the hard times and strive to achieve it. And the fork? Oh, yes….the fork!

There is a story of a woman who asked her family to make sure they buried her with a fork in her hand. The family was puzzled and asked why she wanted this. She smiled and said, “Because whenever we went to a potluck or had a family dinner, when people would clear the table, they’d say….keep you fork. We knew that dessert was coming!” The woman smiled again and said, “There is always something better coming along!”
