Title: DEFINE YOUR PURPOSE – Part 2

What have been your greatest accomplishments in your life? What grabs your interest….energizes you? We develop our purpose by thinking deeply about our lives and what is important to us. To live in harmony with whatever that is, for each of us, rewards us with the highest level of peace. For each person, it is different. This is not about telling you what you have to like and what your goals have to be. This is about guiding you through the process to define your purpose.

To live without a purpose is akin to being a kite in the air. First of all, you aren’t grounded. You are floating around, subject to the whim of the ideas of others, breezing around you. Without a direction, you may get caught in a tree. Or you may hang around for a while, then come tumbling to the ground when the breezes die out. You roll around, wondering how this all happened. Defining your purpose is about determining your direction. It is not a definition, rather it is a journey. You are never totally at a stopping point; there is always more to go.

Think about your guiding principles, your “rules for living”. How is it that you choose to live your life? Are you acting in ways that follow these? To do that means we are living our life from a sense of integrity. Couple these with the ideas that energize you. Add to that a list of your most important personal qualities.

Envision your world (family, business, neighborhood, city, country, global) as you’d like it to be. How can you get there? What parts of you—your personal qualities, guiding principles, motivators—can be the conduit on that journey? How have you just defined your purpose? Have fun with this. It makes a world of difference.
